Virtual consults
Online appointments are a way for us to help you reclaim your function and achieve your goals without the limitation of having to see us in person.
Prior to your consultation, we will ask you to send us some videos of how you walk and move, along with some information about what troubles you.
We will then use this information during your 60-minute consultation to provide a treatment plan and rationale for what is causing your current troubles.
Your consultation will use video conferencing and a link will be sent to you prior to the consultation.
Is an online consultation right for me?
We have helped many people like yourself reach their goals, and reclaim their function both in person and online. We find that education is one of the most important tools in enabling you to guide yourself towards healthy feet. If you are currently suffering with pain or just have some questions regarding shoes or how to stay active with healthy feet then an online consult is for you.
Are you currently suffering from pain or just have some questions regarding shoes or how to stay active with healthy feet then an online consult is for you.
What will I need for the consultation?
Laptop / tablet
We recommend using a laptop or tablet that has a camera and speakers.
Internet Connection
You will also need a stable internet connection
Try to find a space that has an open area you can move, ensuring any windows are in front of you.
Camera
We will start by chatting, and then move to your assessment. You want to be sure that your camera is positioned to capture your whole body when standing to ensure the best assessment.
What to expect
Please allow 60 minutes for your first appointment.
You can expect to have a lot of fun at your appointment with your Functional Soles podiatrist. We believe that life is too short to not have any fun and want you to feel comfortable enough to kick your shoes off!!
At Functional Soles Podiatry, we are all about helping you reach your goals. The initial part of your consultation will entail understanding who you are, your medical history and previous injuries. Your podiatrist will look into the true cause of your complaint by reviewing how your joints move, watching you walk or run, as well as assessing for any pain or discomfort.
Based on these findings, your podiatrist will discuss with you the likely causes and treatment options that can assist you in reaching your goals.
To ensure the best possible care for you we ask that you bring your commonly worn shoes, a list of your medications and medical conditions, and any scans you may have. Wear loose clothing that you are comfortable moving around in.
What we offer
Our goal is to provide a long-term solution for you and your family.
We believe that every case is different and as such we will always work with you to find the best treatment for you and your needs. Below are some of the treatments we offer.
Joint Mobilisation
Improving how the joint moves.
Joint mobilisation is a gentle hands-on technique used to help restore motion to stiff joints. Your joints can become stiff as the result of impact sustained from activities such as walking, running or standing for long periods. Joint mobilisation is a safe way to help restore the range of motion within your joints and improve your overall function.
Dry Needling
Helping to reduce muscle tension
Dry needling involves the insertion of thin acupuncture needles into the irritated muscle and is an effective treatment for many injuries that can occur in the lower limb. It has been shown to assist in decreasing pain and improving the range of motion.
Strength & Conditioning
Individualised programs to get you better
Our strength and conditioning programs are designed specifically to help you reach your goals. The exercises used help to optimise your movements, aid in preventing the development of injuries and improve your performance. Your Functional Soles podiatrists have additional qualifications through the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association.
Positional Release Techniques
Helping to relieve pain
Positional release is a very gentle technique, aiming to shorten or decompress the tissues to reduce contracture or tightness. The tissues can become contracted or tight as a result of trauma, positional strain or repetitive motions. This technique is a great alternative when needling is not a suitable treatment option.
Strengthening from the Ground Up
Building strong and stable feet
We believe the best time to start working on your feet is before they hurt. We will work with you to identify any areas of concern or ways to improve your feet to keep you moving for longer. Your Functional Soles podiatrists are certified Barefoot Rehab Trainers
Gait Analysis
Assessing your walking
Gait analysis is the assessment of your walking, it helps us to learn more about you and how you move through space. Everyone’s walking is unique to them and this process allows us to help optimise your specific pattern.
Footwear Advice
Because who doesn’t love chatting about shoes?
Selecting the right pair of shoes can be a daunting process, with many brands and colours to choose from. We can work with you to provide some insights into things to look for when buying shoes that will work for your lifestyle and the goals you want to achieve.
Transitioning to a Barefoot Lifestyle
The journey to functional feet comes in many forms.
If you would like to explore transitioning to barefoot or minimalist shoes, we can help you along this journey. Whether you are just starting out, or have been wearing minimalist shoes for a while now, we can safely guide you through the process.
Rehabilitation
Strength-based exercises to get you back to what you love.
Rehabilitation programs are used to help you recover from an injury and restore your function. We work with you to identify the factors that lead to your injury and then help you to avoid them in the future through the use of an individualised exercise program.
Prolotherapy
Non-surgical regenerative injection technique
Prolotherapy is an injection technique that uses small amounts of an irritant solution to encourage tissue healing. It can be used to help with joint, ligament or tendon pain.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation
Massage technique to reduce muscle tension
Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation is a form of massage used to improve the motion of your tissues. It is performed using tools that contour to the shape of your tissues to allow for greater control during treatment.
Scar Tissue Release
Helping to relieve pain around scars and surgery sites
Scar tissue can cause the skin to become tight, meaning it cannot move as well. This can result in increased strain on the surrounding joints and muscles. Through the use of gentle soft tissue mobilisations, we can help you to restore the motion around the site of your scar and reduce the discomfort that can arise.
Running Analysis
Assessing your running technique
Running is an activity that many of us enjoy, however, 50% of all runners get injured each year. Sometimes this is from trauma but most often it’s from overuse and training errors. The way you run can have a large impact on avoiding injuries. Our running analysis can help you look deeper at your running technique to help you avoid injury and improve your performance, through the use of running drills and minor adjustments.

Orthotic Therapies
Assisting to relieve pain
The Functional Soles Podiatry difference is striving towards building strong functional feet. When we use an orthotic it is for the purpose of helping you on the journey to functional feet, as such almost all our orthotic prescriptions will come with an exit plan. We believe that they can be utilised in the short term to overcome your injury (the relief part of our process) and then with the use of exercises and good rehab (the restore and reclaim part of our process), you should be able to reduce or discontinue the use of your orthoses.
The decision to use an orthotic will be specific to you and your goals, and not everyone requires them as part of their treatment plan. If you think you may need orthotics or would like to discuss your options to stop using orthoses, then why not book in to see us or arrange a discovery call with one of our team.
Children's Feet
Your little one’s feet are just as important as your own.
The key thing to remember is that they are still developing and will go through many changes in their first few years of life. We understand that these changes can be daunting so let us help guide you and your little one on the journey to functional feet.
